The Account Executive works at the client face of a tech company to uncover new business opportunities and to increase the value of existing accounts. The AE role is a great opportunity for an ambitious sales person to expand their horizons, taking control of more of the sales cycle and assuming responsibility for vital client accounts.
The specifics of the role vary from company to company, but in general, it’s a gear-shift from the SDR position in that you’ll take be focused on building productive, long-lasting relationships between your company and its customers. You’ll be a consultant and a problem-solver, understanding your clients’ business challenges and thinking creatively about how your solution can help. You’ll become familiar with complex sales, uncovering opportunities to increase the value of accounts by upselling and cross-selling. And you’ll grow your client base by hunting down new business opportunities and pushing deals over the finish line.
The AE role combines the energy and pace of the sales floor with the independence that comes with more senior positions; as well as hustling to hit targets and win incentives, you’ll attend client meetings, give presentations and represent your company at industry events- and you might do business over dinner or drinks.
